I have always had a passion for art initially undertaking a degree in Fine Arts (History) and English. This led to a short career in Teaching. I then pursued a career in Law before returning to my first love, painting, many years later. Throughout years of study with a wonderful art teacher, who helped me "see" the world from an artists perspective, I develop impressionistic techniques. A passion for collage and mixed media with its greater creative possibilities evolved. I moved more recently however towards a more abstract expressionist direction with its challenges and potential for subjective expression.
Collage and abstraction can work well together, and I am currently exploring these possibilities. Collage: - found papers, discarded tickets, catalogues, old newspapers, magazines, etc give a cross section of and insight into people's lives and it is fascinating to incorporate some of the grit, grain and texture of these human waste materials into my paintings. Sometimes the collage can create or enhance a "story," sometimes it serves to provide another textural ground to further work upon and inspire a new direction. I am interested too in the combinational of cold wax, Collage and oils to create layers, depth and complexity.
I find that the very activity of making art gives one a meditative flow, and this enhances my life enormously.
I hope the artworks bring pleasure and interest to you too.
